No gym, no problem!

Weight Training at Home

Lots of people own weights (or are getting rid of theirs cheaply on Craigslist) and this can be a great way for you to build muscle and get in shape. If you can't find cheap weights, you also can use cans of food as makeshift weights to start. There are lots of exercises that will tone your arms and backs especially with weights.

Yoga Online

In the last few years, yoga routines are popping up more and more online. You will find a number of high quality teachers on YouTube or other online video sites. These videos even offer options such as yoga to build up the muscles in your legs, yoga for back relief if you have a sore back, and yoga for a strong core. To practice yoga, all you really need is a yoga mat and a little open floor space in your home.

Reduce Your Car Use

One great and easy way to get in shape is to just walk or bike more. Instead of driving to the park, why don't you walk or bike there? You should re-assess the trips you make to the store, the library, the mall, school, and maybe even your workplace! This is a great one to get your family and friends involved in.

Not only will you be getting in shape while running errands, but also you'll reduce the chance of getting common health ailments like heart disease or diabetes. Another benefit is that you will save money on gas and upkeep on your car. The only cost would be having to get a bike and a bike helmet.

Walking a dog at least twice a day is a great excuse to get in shape. After all, you're less likely to be lazy about a walk when you're faced with those pleading puppy dog eyes. Dogs also can help you connect with your community more, get to know your neighbors better, and help you stay healthier in the long run. The downsides to getting a dog is that they require attention, love, discipline, vet visits, and dog food. Plus you're making a long-term commitment when you adopt or buy a dog.

Gardening can be a great way to get in shape. When you garden, you're bending, lifting, carrying, shoveling, digging, and more. These activities work a wide range of muscles and make you sweat a bit. Not only that, gardening is something that you can do everyday in the spring, summer, and fall because you'll have to fight to keep those weeds out of your garden! You'll feel motivated by how beautiful your garden looks, the fresh veggies you'll harvest, and the lovely flowers you'll be surrounded by.
