Tips and Tricks to Get all the Water You Need Each Day

We have all heard that we need to drink 8 cups of water a day. But is that really true? Yes, more or less. Men need more water per day. And if you live in a dry climate or are very active, you will need more water than just 8 cups a day. The good news is that all fluids count towards that 8 cup goal.

There are so many great reasons to drink more water. You use fluids in your body regularly so drinking water is essential to replacing fluid that may be lost along the way. Water can help you control your weight or even lose weight, especially if you replace sugary sodas with it. It also keeps your skin looking good and energizes your muscles when you exercise. Water helps you cleanse your body and gives your kidneys a boost to get rid of body waste. It also will keep you from getting constipated.

Here are some easy tips for you to get more water in your day.

Start your day off right

When you get up in the morning, your body is dehydrated after 8 hours of sleep. Replenish that water by drinking a cup or two of tea, water, or juice before doing anything else. As you wait for the water to boil for your morning tea or your coffee to finish dripping, fill up a glass of water to sip on. Your body will feel much better and more able to start the day after those first glasses of water in the morning.

Keep a full cup near your workspace Putting a cup of water or reusable water bottle by your computer will give you that visual hint to drink more water. And getting up to fill up your water bottle or mug will help you take those needed breaks during the day, too. Try to get up from your desk at least once an hour to refill your cup.

Vary it up

Some people just do not like the taste of water. Ok, that's fine. But you do still need to get liquids in your body. Flavored waters, tea, coffee, sparkling water, juice, and iced tear are all great options for getting liquids. Of course, water is by far the healthiest option for you because it does not add extra calories to your diet. Try to get more water in your system than any of these other drink options during a day.

You can spice up water by adding a slice of lemon or lime to your water. You also can make yourself a homemade flavored water by adding raspberries, blueberries, cucumber slices, mint leaves, watermelon, blackberry, pineapple, or many other options. This will break up your water-drinking routine and make you look forward to drinking more liquids in the day.

Soup counts!

Those 8 cups of water per day can come from other sources, like your breakfast, lunch, or dinner. A clear, brothy soup can count for an amount of water. And it is not just soup that can count. Milk in your cereal also gives your body liquid. Even juicy fruits can give you fluids!

However you do it, drinking more water each day is a great way to keep yourself healthy.
